Saying No to Good Opportunities

Sometimes you have to say NO to good opportunities or great opportunities.

Our society is fueled by the fear of not doing enough, and our young adult population is paying a huge price for this fear. Less than 15% of high school and college students are getting the recommended hours of sleep, most are getting less than half the amount required for proper brain functions. Sleep is vital to your brain health; it removes toxins, repairs tissues, and is essential to stimulating how neurons (nerve cells) communicate with each other.

Pondering this—-how much of our existential mental health crisis is rooted in sleep deprivation? How much of  this could be preventable by adequate sleep?

Be brave, say no to opportunities that interfere with getting proper sleep. AP classes are stimulating, sports are wonderful, taking an internship is amazing, but do make choices.

Nothing will be worth it if the brain crashes.

Note: I had two young people fall completely apart on me this week because they were, "Just so tired." Need help choosing your best yes, calming the system for sleep or being brave enough to not do all the things...... reach out. I have loads of experience saying NO to fabulous things for the sake of balance.
